I get asked all the time how I achieve my bright product photography. It all comes down to two things, lighting, and, the backdrop. This is the simplest DIY project you might ever do. It has two steps...ready? 1. Buy a piece of ply wood from Home Depot or Lowes. 2. Paint it white or beige.
That is it. Take your photos in a naturally lit area and then show off all of your hard work. My backdrop is about 26 x26 inches.
I have used this one piece of ply wood to make jewelry pop and food look heavenly. Occasionally I will add a piece of fabric or some other texture to give a little bit more depth to a photo. Here are a few of my favorite photos I have taken using my plain white wood backdrop:
I would love to hear other ideas for photo backdrops that you use!
As always, thanks for reading!
Hi Megan, your photos really are gorgeous. I'm always looking to improve the photos I take. I like your idea about the board. My husband always takes most of my product photos and he struggles with natural light...someday, some pro lights would be a nice addition for us, expensive but maybe well worth it.

Hi Ruth! Thanks for the comment, the trick is to be inside near a large window that faces away from the sun. That way you get lots of light with no glare or shadows. You can also do a covered patio or something like that to get the same effect. Try doing photos at different times of the day to see what works best for you!
Deleteso, are you telling me not all bloggers have the perfect hardwood table? :( there goes my dream! Haha, this post should be pinned to Pinterest! x
ReplyDeleteHaha I would love to have a gorgeous wood table some day...for now plywood does the job! :D Thanks for commenting!
DeleteSuch a good idea! It's amazing the difference it makes and how often backgrounds are overlooked when people are taking pictures!
